From Sound Engineer to Underwriting Leader

He did not start in tech.

He started in 1996 as a telemarketer, picking up extra hours while buying his first home. At the time, he was a sound engineer. Within months, he was pulled into the mortgage business full time as a Loan Officer.

When subprime shifted in the late 1990s, he moved into underwriting. Within a year, he was managing underwriting, processing, and closing teams while still underwriting loans daily.

He has worked in underwriting, secondary marketing, operations leadership, and process improvement ever since.

He remembers handwritten 1003s. Credit reports ordered from a separate machine. Disclosure packages mailed in envelopes.

He also remembers when Desktop Underwriter first reminded the industry that technology can feel threatening before it becomes indispensable.

That perspective shapes how we build.

The Human Side

Outside of mortgage, Joe is a father of four adult children and a proud grandfather to a two-year-old grandson.

He travels to England each year to watch the Super Bowl with his son, who is deployed there as an Airman in the Air Force. If you have never watched an NFL game in a room full of British fans, he highly recommends it.

He also spent his early career as a sound engineer and once worked on Hall and Oates’ induction into the Philadelphia Music Hall of Fame.
